Find your Functional Threshold Power (FTP) Maximum Minute Power (MMP), Maximum Heart Rate (MHR), Power to Weight Ratio and Estimated VO2max.

OPTION 1 – THE SUBMAXIMAL RAMP TEST (SPORTS SCIENCE TEST)

WHY COMPLETE THIS SPORTS SCIENCE TEST?

The submaximal ramp test is one of a number of sports science tests that will calculate your Maximum Minute Power (MMP), Maximum Heart Rate (MHR), and Functional Threshold Power (FTP) you can use this information to set personalised training zones and give structure to your training.

WHEN TO USE THE SUBMAXIMAL RAMP TEST

Use the submaximal ramp test at the start of a training plan or block of training to set your baseline performance figures.

WHAT IS THE SUBMAXIMAL RAMP TEST?

During this test you will ride in 15 watt increments until you experience a perceived rate of exertion (RPE) of 7 out of 10 (where 1= easy, 10= extremely hard), you’ll no longer be able to maintain a conversation when you reach an RPE of 7.

INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE ARRIVING FOR YOUR SUBMAXIMAL RAMP TEST

Arrive ready for your test 15-20 minutes prior to your start time to fill our paperwork, change and prepare for the test with a warmup.

HOW WE INTERPRET YOUR RESULTS

Following the test the following results will be calculated

MMP – maximum minute power is used to help calculate training zones

MHR – Maximum heart rate can also be used to determine training zones

Power to weight ratio – how much power are you generating for your body weight more power/kg = greater performance

METS: The Metabolic Intensity Of The Test

VO2max estimate – Estimates of the maximum volume of consumption of oxygen in milliliters per minute per kilogram of body weight (ml/min/kg).

OPTION 2 – THE MAXIMAL RAMP TEST (SPORTS SCIENCE TEST)

WHY COMPLETE THIS SPORTS SCIENCE TEST?

We recommend that you only undertake this test if you are of excellent health and fitness. This is the ‘gold standard’ test designed to find your MMP and MHR.

WHEN TO USE THE MAX RAMP TEST

Use this test when you want to find your true MMP and MHR.

WHAT IS THE MAX RAMP TEST?

This sports science test is an incremental test to exhaustion, the target wattage increases by a set amount every minute until failure. The final full minute completed is where MMP (Maximum Minute Power and MHR (Maximum Heart Rate) are recorded. This is a tough test so be prepared.
